CORALS ARE DYING FROM STARVATION

Corals are animals, though, because they do not make their own food, as plants do. Corals have tiny, tentacle-like arms that they use to capture their food from the water and sweep into their inscrutable mouths. Most corals contain algae, which are plant-like organisms. A temperature change can force coral to expel the algae, leaving their white skeletons visible in a process known as "bleaching" . Bleached coral without algae don’t have a source of food. If high temperatures persist for months, the coral will die from STARVATION.

The world has lost half its coral reefs in the last 30 years. The health of the planet depends on it: Coral reefs support a quarter of all marine species, as well as half a billion people around the world. Coral reefs produce some of the oxygen we breathe. Often described as underwater rainforests.
