HUNT THE HUNTERS

Is hunting necessary to control animal population? No. The vast majority of hunted species—such as upland birds, squirrels and raccoons—provide minimal sustenance and do not require population control. Natural phenomena such as predators, starvation, and disease kill primarily the sickest and weakest individuals. Hunters strive to kill the largest, strongest animals because they want to hang their heads on a wall, so it’s not controlling population, but weakening. Hunting does not reduce e.g. the deer population, because removing some individuals from the population results in more food per deer, which leads to the births of more twins. This also means that hunting is unnecessary because the deer will self-regulate and give birth to fewer fawns when food is scarce. Hunters often accidentally kill animals other than the ones who are being hunted, including horses, cows, dogs, and cats. Hunters even kill themselves (good for them!) or other humans.
